Unformatted text preview: Written and Illustrated by Rosemarie Keene Patty has turned 4 years old and her mommy has told her it is time to visit the dentist. But Patty is wondering, “What is a dentist?” She asks her trusted friend Penelope Panther, “Do you know what a dentist is?” Penelope replies, “No, but I’ll go with you so we can find out together!” Patty’s mommy helps Patty picks out an outfit to wear to the dentist; she wants her to wear something comfortable because she will have to sit for awhile in a dentist chair. “Mommy, I’m a little scared can I bring Penelope with me?” “Sure you can, Patty, if that will make you happy” says Patty’s mommy. Patty’s mommy, Patty and Penelope load up in the car. “Patty, I have a special song for us to sing on our way to the dentist! Listen first and then follow along with me.” “Brush, brush, brush your teeth, brush them every day. Keep them bright, make them shine, clean the plaque away. Brush, brush, brush your teeth, brush them every day. Front, back, take off the plaque, now we smile all day.” Patty and Penelope love the song so they sing it again with Patty’s mommy. “Brush, brush, brush your teeth, brush them every day. Keep them bright, make them shine, clean the plaque away. Brush, brush, brush your teeth, brush them every day. Front, back, take off the plaque, now we smile all day.” They have finally arrived at the dentist and Patty is very nervous and squeezes Penelope’s paw tight. “It’s okay,” whispers Penelope, “I’m right here with you”. Penelope, Patty, and her mommy wait in the office and soon out comes a lady she says,”Hi Patty, I’m Angie and I’ll be your dental hygienist today” “What?” Patty replies. “Oh, I’m sorry sweetie. That is what we call the person who cleans teeth. A dentist is the doctor who takes care of teeth and mouths.” So, Patty goes with Angie into a room with a big chair and sits down. “Now Patty, let me show you the different things in the...
