Characteristics of Orientalism, Prejudice, and Discrimination Muslims and Arabs have many differences between one another. Muslims belong to the Muslim religion, which follows the god Allah and the teachings of Islam, while the Arabs come from the Middle East and Northern Africa. Not all Muslim are Arabs and not all Arab are Muslims, but sometimes you will see a Muslim that is also an Arab. After the tragic events that happened on September 11, 2001, new policies were made to ensure the safety of all Americans regardless of their religion or race. The president had appeared before the American people a numerous of times to reassure everyone that Islam is a faith of love, not anger or terror. Discrimination against Muslims and Arab Americans is a crime, but that did not stop people from being violent toward

Unformatted text preview: them and this violence against Muslims and Arabs continues to go on. Orientalism is the act of seeing people today as their ancestors were. People who look at Muslims and Arabs see the history of those people. Orientalism turns a persons perception around and after that the person does not see a change in their behavior, this then causes the person to believe that since Arabs were violent then, they should still be violent today. They can correct people when they hear them say something bias, but they have to correct them in a harmless way. They can speak to people that have been discriminated against and help others see nothing is wrong. They can also treat everyone equally and that will keep people from being prejudicial toward them....
