AME 352 POSITION ANALYSIS P.E. Nikravesh 1 Graphical Position Analysis In the graphical position analysis the objective is to graphically construct the vector loop for a given mechanism. Direct measurements from the constructed polygon yield values for the unknown lengths and angles. Four-bar Mechanisms Given -- Lengths of the links and the angle of one link (usually the crank): R O 4 O 2 , R AO 2 , R BA , R BO 4 , ± 2 Construct the four-bar and measure the other two angles. 1. Establish the ground attachment points O 2 and O 4 , knowing R O 4 O 2 . 2. Establish point A knowing R AO 2 and 2 . 3. Draw a circle centered at A and a radius of R BA . 4. Draw a circle centered at O 4 and a radius of R BO 4 . 5. The intersect of the two circles is B ; there are two solutions. Based on the application, select one.
