Political Participation, Elections, and Voting in Texas Political participation- any attempt to influence or support govt and politics. Two forms: 1) Conventional – involves the use of routine and legitimate institutions provided by govt 2) Unconventional- activities outside the usual and acceptable routes for affecting govt, and that challenge and oppose policy, can possible be illegal forms How do we choose which road to take? 1) Internal political efficacy – an individual’s feeling that he or she has the skills necessary to influence govt 2) Political trust - – an individual’s feeling that govt decisions are made in the public’s interest and that officials are honest and diligent
