Maximizing revenue vs. maximizing other things (e.g. protection, control, etc) b. Alexia.com top world websites. c. Facebook, second life, and craigslist eBusiness. 2. Business and the internet a. Disruptive Technology (new way of doing things) vs. sustaining technologies (improvement on existing product). Examples? i. Polaroid (failed to do industry analysis - Thread of substitutes) ii. Digital Darwinism iii. Internet and disruption (stock broking, travel booking, entertainment, banking) b. Evolution of the internet: Military origin, Set of protocols that specify transmission format and rules. Reasons for popularity. Now Web 2.0.
