Journal Entry 1: My name is Martin and I am an 11 year old African American boy. I was born to a slave, and have been a slave my whole life until now. My family and I are one of the rare lucky ones. We have lived on the plantations since I could remember. Most slave families get separated because of their owners, but thank God we are all owned by the same family. We were told recently that we have to get on a ship. This has been a very hard and difficult time for me these last few months and may I also add confusing. My family and I have had to move to the America on a boat and because my family has been together for most of mines and their lives this situation have been difficult. Most of my family has been separated, but I am still here with my mother and sister. The men and boys are on another boat but we do not see them at all. I do not know why we are moving from the plantations but we were told we had to go. We are migrating to the America and that is all that I know. Things have not changed one bit for us slaves in
