Pick Me 3/14/2010 CJS/220 What Really Happens For a Pre-t rial? 2 What Really Happens For a Pre-t rial? 3 During a pretrial many important things happen, things such as discovery, ongoing negotiations between the defense and the prosecution, in addition, to pre-trial motions, and jury selection. These four things are some of the most important events of a trial. I will attempt to explain each one and how they will affect the main trial. Discovery being the first of the four is where the defense and the prosecution have the chance to interview witnesses outside of court and obtain depositions (also known as legal statements) to help them in their case. In addition, discovery is also a chance for each side to examine evidence that the other may have against each other. This is so there will not be any unwelcome surprises in the trial. However, sometimes this happens anyways, thus needing a unwelcome surprises in the trial....
