April Mazur TR 12:30pm Talk Shows: Advise for Life or a Distraction? Prompt #3 On almost all the channels of television today, there is some form of a talk show. They are everywhere. These “engaging forms of entertainment” fall in a variety of categories from psychiatric to intellectual and will more likely than not continue to increase in numbers on television for years to come. There are many people that view these shows and take heed to them like they are the bible on television; everything said and advised is all part of the key to having a happier, more successful life. But in these talk shows, including Oprah and Dr. Phil , are the messages, advice and issues they present actually important issues of society? Talk shows on television today do not usually supply viewers with topics that are, in reality, important to society in general. Instead, they converse about and advise on concerns that are meant for entertainment purposes only and distract viewers from the reality of what is important.
