9/2/2009 1 Discussion Summary: In discussion, we discussed the differences between Reductionist and Holistic approaches to studying biology, Positive and Negative Controls , and Inductive and Deductive Reasoning . These topics were discussed in the context of the quote on slide 2 and the lab on slide 6. You should be able to define each of these terms as well as provide examples of each. We also reviewed the syllabus for the discussion section (see slide 4) and I introduced the UT learning center (see slide 5). The discussion concluded with a quiz (see slide 7); we will reviews the answers to the quiz next week in discussion. Welcome!
