Danny Tu Pd. 6 Physics Friction and Surface Type Purpose: The purpose of this lab experiment was to determine if the type of material that a surface is made of would affect the friction of an object if it was pulled across it. Hypothesis: I thought that the surfaces which seemed rougher would create more friction with the object. This would cause the object to have more friction when moving. Procedure: We used a constant weight of 1 kg on five different surfaces: cardboard, rubber, sandpaper, cork board, and the back of the board. We did several trials on all five surfaces to ensure no errors would be recorded. Using an electronic Newton scale, we recorded the amount of Newtons that it took to move the object across the various surfaces.
