Unformatted text preview: Itzel Rodriguez Lab Summary 2A The main purpose of this lab was to observe the properties of water that are necessary for sustaining life. We were able to see how water molecules can surround ions and polar molecules. With the help of distilled water , slides, and pennies we were able to test different interactions between water molecules. With the glass slide we observed how bonds move from molecule to molecule. The results show that it is easier to move the slides with water but harder to break them apart. We were also able to see how intermolecular forces in the water molecules made a dome-like form on top of the penny, unless detergent was added. We also tested for surface tension with a beaker and a paperclip. We were able to see that the clip was not heavy enough to break the surface tension and thats why it folated. We were able to see how the paperclip could float on water because its under the absolute surface tension.
