Itzel Rodriguez Lab Summary #3 The purpose of this lab was to learn more about the functional groups. There wasn’t much testing or observing. It was more of a learning by visually seeing some models. We used model kits to construct different functional groups. Some of the groups we build were: hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, amino and phosphate. We used different colored balls to signify different atoms. For example, we used the yellow ball as a hydrogen atom, the black as carbon, oxygen as red, and nitrogen as blue. We then used two different coils to indicate double bonds. We also talked about what groups were hydrophilic or hydrophobic. We then used the models we drew to demonstrate how water would interact with the functional group. There wasn’t really a question for this lab. It was more so we could review and learn what we didn’t know about functional groups. I thought it was useful because there’s so much you can take from reading about the functional groups in a book. With this lab, we could visually see
