The video Ghost of Rwanda exposes the use of logic of exclusion, diluted empathy, and the notion of us vs. them. Both logic of exclusion, and diluted empathy are justifications as to why we violate moral imperatives. A distinct portrayal of these meanings was the altercation between the Hutus and the Tutsis. The Hutus had utilized logic of exclusion by using different propaganda techniques that allows them to manipulate the minds of the Hutus extremists. Hutus extremists exercised techniques by using the radio to express their hatred towards the Tutsis. The Hutus manipulate the other extremists by disclosing messages like “Tutsis use to abuse the Hutus”, or “The Tutsis were foreign invaders planning on turning the Hutus into slaves”. By announcing messages like these on the public radio, it had further stirred up the tension amongst these two groups. While these messages were occurring frequently on the radio, the resentment towards the Tutsis was building up causing the concept of us vs. them.
