Lenin Winter 2006 DA -I I C T A Brief History of Java What is Java? – An object oriented programming language – A programming environment • Java has associated with it a large set of classes • These classes make java very powerful and promote a standard development style • It helps to extend the system rather than programming from scratch – An operating environment Java virtual machine – in which all java programs execute – Java’s own personal machine which has been ported to a variety of platforms and operating systems
