Unformatted text preview: Matt Phares English 102 October 20th, 2008 Research Proposal The research question for my paper will be: Why is the retention rate for West Virginia University so low and what is causing the rate to be so low? As well as what can be done to raise the retention rate not only as a school, but what I can do myself as a Resident Assistant to raise the retention. Rate The intended audience for my paper will be my English 102 teacher, my English 102 classmates, my employers, and West Virginia University. WVUs retention rate has steadily dropped well below the national average of 71% since 2005. Many reasons can be blamed for this decline, but now that it has been recognized as a problem with students living in temporary housing, steps must be taken to correct it. Students living in temporary housing not only cause problems for the students, but it also puts a strain on the RAs to make sure the students have a successful first year.
