Summative Report Our world has become very technological advance; we now watch movies in 3D, drive hybrid cars and send letters with the click of a button. Have you ever thought about the technology used to find what dieses we have or what bone we broke? We have come very far from the first X-ray back more then 100years ago. So what imaging technologies for diagnostic testing are there and how do they work, well there is: MRI, CAT scan, Ultrasound, X-Ray Photography, and Nuclear Medicine. On June 3, 1977 the first MRI exam on a human was performed it took many hours and was very “ugly” compared to today’s standards. MRI is short form for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. An MRI machine uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body. Usually a MRI exam takes thirty minutes. A magnetic field is made by passing an electric current through the wire. While that is happening other coils in the magnet send and receive radio waves. This makes protons in the body to align themselves. Once aligned, radio waves are absorbed by the protons. Energy is released after, which powers up the molecules, which in turn radiate energy signals that are picked up by the coil. After all of that, the information is sent to a computer which then produces an image for doctors too exam. Some of the advantages of and MRI is that it does not pose any health related ricks and you may take as many tests as you would like. Some disadvantages would include that if you are someone who is not comfortable
