Friendships and intimacy are relational needs According to Shutz, people also have needs for  inclusion, affection, and control

    Why we communicate Communication fills identity needs In Maslow’s hierarchy, self-esteem needs are ‘identity  needs.’ How we are ‘talked to’ influences how we see  ourselves. How we describe ourselves to others influences  how others see us and treat us.
