WELCOME to the COLLEGE of TEXTILES Syllabus for T 101 - Introduction to the College of Textiles- Fall 2010 Section 601 Philip Dail 515-1177 [email protected] TA – Brett Faircloth [email protected] GOALS AND OBJECTIVES This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the textile industry and to introduce them to the diversity of this industry. The sessions will be highly interactive with students being introduced to the faculty and staff in the College of Textiles as is appropriate to enhance their awareness of this diversity and what is actually occurring in the College. Students will also be introduced to the various degree programs in the College and be provided with the opportunity to discuss career options with upper class students and faculty in these programs. Academic development including topics such as time management, ethics, integrity, study skills will be included throughout the course. Students will complete a plan of work to guide them in course selection for the degree of their choice. Leadership development, team work, and an appreciation for the globalization of not only the textile industry but all commerce will be addressed. Students will be responsible for becoming familiar with the academic policies and resources at the College and University levels. A major goal for this course is to be the blending of textile students with different degree pursuits into a group of students who work together to accomplish a task rather than viewing themselves as separated into various degrees in two departments. A major objective of this course is to familiarize all students with as much of the College of Textiles as possible. This is the reason you will view presentations from all departments about all the programs we have. The lectures you watch for this course are accessed wolfware.ncsu.edu. NOTE: Do NOT put www in front of “wolfware”. You will then use “MOODLE” to view the videos. NOTHING else is done using MOODLE for this course. URGENT: Read every word of this syllabus. Following directions in an on line course is crucial. This syllabus may be changed as needed by the instructor. 1
