Thomas Nelson 09/07/10 TMS211L Section 202 Exercise 2. Fiber Cross-Sectioning Techniques for Microscopical Study Abstract: This exercise was conducted to give an introduction to proper usage of the Nikon Microscopes used in TMS211, as well as proper slide mounting and basic observations of fibers. Different mountings were introduced for cross sectional analysis. Proper lab report writing was also reviewed. Objectives: 1. Learn about depth of field 2. Learn how to mount fibers for cross sectional analysis Introduction: Proper usage of the Nikon Microscopes as far as focusing techniques as well as table movement is introduced and practiced. Cross-section mounting of different fibers is also introduced. The lab focuses on proper microscope etiquette as well as making basic observations of different fibers and how they are viewed in the respective media. Proper formatting of lab reports is covered in depth as well as grading rubrics. Equipment:
