Crystal Calderon Mrs. Wickham Communication Arts IV 10 September 2010 From soft, gentle breezes over warm soft sand, lapped by gentle waves, of crystal clear water. That’s how many people imagine Mexico to be. The majority of people are amazed by the beaches, authentic Mexican food, and the exclusive resorts. According to Erlyn Baack, “20 million people in Mexico live on less than two dollars a day.” One cause of poverty comes from individuals circumstances. Education plays a role in one, without the knowledge, struggles lie ahead. During the summer of my senior year, my family and I made a trip to Mexico. One evening, I went for a stroll at dusk, to the Mercado: an open-air store, just as many of the vendors were ending their day. The steel frame of their stores were left empty, all items were packed onto hand carts and pushed along the streets to lots where they pay to store their items.
