E 316K, Berry GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR EXAM 1 FORMAT. #1: A blue book/examination book is needed for each exam . All answers will be recorded therein—depending on the writing you will do individually, a medium-to-longer length bluebooks (for only a few pennies more), is the best bet. Do not sign your book; they will be handed to the TAs as you come in and subsequently redistributed. (Since we are redistributing the blank bluebooks within the class, all students should purchase that size bluebook. Should you desire to purchase all your bluebooks for this course at one time, you will need a total of three .) Exams are not created by me until the few days before they are given, but their format will go a little (or a lot) something like this. Some details may vary slightly, but this will give you a good idea of the general format of all exams in this E 316K. Section 1 will be a Short Answer Section. This can comprise, point-wise, approximately 40+ pts. of the exam. Some questions will require a longer answer than others; very infrequently is an answer just one word, so be forewarned. These questions will be objective questions coming from a close and careful reading ( not a memorization!) of the readings themselves and a close and careful focus and note-taking in lectures. There will not be a strict 50/50 percentage on readings and lecture materials (these can include handouts as well), but that’s a good goal to study by.
