Unformatted text preview: Math 471: Homework 2 Due Friday, September 12, 2008 Please remember that expressing your reasoning or proof clearly is very im portant! You may discuss problems with other students but your writeups of homework must be your own. Homework is generally due in class or by class time under Dr. Back’s office door. Please finish reading Chapter 2 in EPFA. The combinatorial analysis in chapter 2 of EPFA seems to be less extensive than that in chapter 1 of Durrett’s Essen tials of Probability or chapter 1 of Ross’ A First Course in Probability so you may want to look a bit at those. We’ll cover some of that in class and a few of the ideas do show up in the “extra problems” below. Feller Volume 1 section I.2 and Chapter II (thru II.6) is another more extensive source, some at quite a bit higher level. All these are on reserve in the Math library. The “extra problems” listed below are required to be handed in.
