During various moments we feel, think and act like an abnormal individual Psychological disorders may bring unexplained physical symptoms, irrational fears, and suicidal thoughts Defining Disorders Mental health workers view psychological disorders as persistently harmful thoughts, feelings and action. When behavior is deviant, distressful, and dysfunctional, labeled as disordered Defining Disorders What is deviant? Running naked in US lands you in jail In other cultures, it is a part of life Drinking alcohol in public areas considered deviant In Europe it happens all the time Things change over time homosexuality Defining Disorders Dysfunction is the key to disorders It interferes with your life Intense fear of spiders may be deviant But not a disorder unless it impairs daily functioning
