Tiauna Hendrickson October 1, 2009 Sociology 1101 Newspaper Article Analysis – Deviance “Doctor: Mom starved infant twins to near death” The mother of 13-month-old twin boys was arrested in 2007 and charged with two counts of cruelty to children, four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of forgery. The mother was said to have been starving her twins, who relatives said were so frail that their bones were sticking out from under their skin. When their aunt rescued them from their Clayton County mobile residence she stated, “They were like skeletons, doctors had to put patches on their legs so the bones wouldn’t break.” Their mother, 25 year-old Tessa Zelek, is currently on trial. And in her defense, the lawyer is blaming bad advice from doctors who she states is responsible for telling you how and when to feed and administer medicine to your children. The father and the maternal grandmother are also facing criminal negligence charges. The article
