W elcome to the Motivation Module. Look at your Motivation score on the LASSI. If you scored between: 75-100 You probably don’t need to work on improving your motivation 50-75 You should consider improving your strategies. 0-50 You need to improve your motivation, or you may have serious problems succeeding in college. Using the information, suggestions, and skills presented in this module, other students have been able to improve their motivation and increase their likelihood for academic success. R E S E A R C H Research Tells Us That Students with High Motivation toward College Are more likely to work hard at participating in their classes and at learning the material presented. Tend to see success as a function of their effort. Understand that there are factors they can’t control (e.g., the type of test or assignments given), and focus on the factors that are controllable (e.g., how much time, energy, and effort they can apply to the work). Research Tells Us That Students with Low Motivation toward College Are usually not clear about how college fits in with their own personal, academic, social, and occupational goals.
