Chapter 3: Applications Problems 1. Laser eye surgery to correct nearsightedness has been growing in  popularity. Using a demand and supply model, graph and discuss the  effects on the price and quantity of laser eye surgeries performed if:  a. The price of contact lenses declines  b. Surgical techniques improve to reduce the side effects of laser eye  surgeries  c. More physicians complete training in laser eye surgery 2. In 1997, USAir assembled a team of twelve employees to design a plan  for a low-fare airline for the company. The team included mechanics, flight  attendants, dispatchers, reservation agents, and pilots. It was supervised  by a middle manager. Team members were assured that their  recommendations would be implemented upon approval of their plan by a  steering group of executives and union officials. Within four months, and  after much field research, the team submitted a plan for MetroJet.  MetroJet subsequently began flying. ("USAir 'Peon' Team Pilots Start-Up
