HIT3693 XML Technologies XML LABORATORY – Exercise 2 CREATING XML FILES 1 Objectives covered in this laboratory After this laboratory you should be able to: ± Understand the W3C’s XML Recommendation in general, some of the issues it covers and be able to reference it in learning XML. ± Author a document containing a prolog and the body of the document. 2 W3C XML 1.0 Recommendation You should become familiar with this Recommendation and reference it whenever necessary in creating XML documents. The Recommendation is found at: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml . 1. Have a look at slide 9 of the Lecture 1 notes and the Table of Contents of the Recommendation in order to review the general layout and contents of the Recommendation. 2. Read all of section 1 of the Recommendation. 3. Read all the details for section 2 up to the end of section 2.1. 4. Read the remainder of section 2 but only try to get an idea of the capabilities of XML. You do not have to understand this material thoroughly at this stage.
