Styles of Love 2 Possessive, excited love (mania) appears interesting at first. It gives a person butterflies, and makes a person more energetic and very involved. However, the level of involvement for this kind of love can have negative sequences because it can take over a person’s life to the point the person is no longer able to function normal in society. For example, a man and a woman meet in a coffee shop, both enjoyed each other’s company so they exchange phone numbers. Later in the week they go out on a date. She decides she only wants to be friends at this time. He, on the other hand, feels differently and starts making unannounced visits to her work, follows her around town and sits outside her home at night. His actions frighten her.
