Eastern Religious Philosopher Quotations CheckPoint Buddhism: Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha), Taoism: Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, Confucianism: Confucius, Mencius Quote:”Watching humanity, seeking answers, and asking, how can we fix humans and all of their bad deeds? Is it possible that self affliction is the answer? Will we ever know?” This quotation represents all of the above-listed philosophers. All four philosophers were known as men of great intellect, observers, and believers in the idea that humanity would always suffer and that the answers to many questions may never be known because of the intricacy of the human condition. Siddhartha Gautama Buddha (563-483 B.C.E.) Gautama Siddhartha (Buddha) was a fifth century B.C. philosopher who showed great concern for human suffering. Buddha’s philosophy is the basis for the religion of Buddhism, which is practiced throughout Asia and is now beginning to become more popular in the West. The philosophical religion of Buddhism is derived on the concept of helping humanity overcome misery and uncertainty through the eradication of passion and arrogance through the fulfillment of the state of nirvana , or bliss.
