Nanotech delivers cancer treatment CNN June 23, 2005 A computer model of a dendrimer, carrying methotrezate (red), folic acid (purple) and fluoresceine (green), used to track the dendrimer in the bloodstream. (CNN) -- Scientists using nanotechnology have devised a way of delivering cancer drugs that could make them up to 10 times more effective in combating the killer disease. By attaching a chemotherapeutic drug to manmade nanoparticles , the team of researchers at the University of Michigan were able to smuggle it inside cancerous cells, delaying the growth of tumors in mice by up to 30 days -- the equivalent of three years in a human.

Self-cleaning clothes could mean an end to endless piles of washing. Washing no longer dirty work CNN August 3, 2004 HONG KONG (CNN) -- Two Chinese scientists have come up with the perfect solution to every laundrophobe's biggest problem -- by developing clothes that never get dirty . Reminiscent of scenes from the 1951 film "The Man in the White Suit," in which Sir Alec Guinness plays a scientist who invents a fabric that never needs cleaning, the scientists have developed a textile that cleans itself. Materials scientist…… used nanotechnology…. to come up with the concept.

Functioning artificial kidney on the way CNN October 3, 2005 NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Using nanotechnology , researchers have taken the first step towards developing a fully functioning artificial kidney for patients with end-stage renal disease. The device, which could eliminate the need for dialysis or kidney transplantation, is small -- about the size of a paperback book -- and therefore portable or implantable. Researchers have used nanotechnology to make the first steps towards an artificial kidney.
