Elbow Muscle Action 1. Flexion o brachialis, of all the elbow flexors, possesses the greatest work capacity o force development in elbow flexion is greatest when the elbow is supinated or neutral (half-way between supination and pronation) o force development in elbow flexion is least when the elbow is pronated o elbow force development in flexion/extension is greatest at 80-100 ° of flexion because of two factors: the moment arm of the elbow flexors and extensors is greatest at approximately 90 ° of flexion, and the rotary component of both the elbow flexors and extensors is greatest at approximately 90 ° of flexion o the average maximum force of elbow flexion is 420 N - this is for a male doing an isometric muscle activation
