Male vs. Female differences o women = 45% to 66% of torque values for men o these differences largely disappear when normalized for lean body mass and exercise habits Calculating Shoulder Forces Force = any influence causing an acceleration Joint reaction force = a force within a joint which is equal to, and opposite in direction to the net external force to which the joint is exposed. Joint reaction force is due to the structural strength of the bones, ligaments, cartilage, joint capsule, and synovial membranes resisting external forces. The primary source of external forces which compress the joint and cause reaction forces are those resulting from muscular contraction. Reaction forces are very difficult to estimate
