Anterior Muscles of the Shoulder Girdle MUSCLE FROM TO ACTION Pectoralis minor anterior surface of the 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th ribs near the cartilage the tip of the coracoid processes of the scapula Acts in downward rotation, upward tilt (as in shoulder hyper-extension), depression, protraction (abduction and lateral tilt), and also acts to lift the ribs on inspiration Serratus anterior outer surface of upper 9 ribs at side of chest anterior surface of vertebral border and inferior angle of scapula
