Verina Atalla October 12, 2009 Renu Jain  Chemistry 1111 Lab  Determining the Empirical formula of a compound 1) Write the balanced chemical equation for this experiment   Mg(s) + 2HCl   MgCl2 + H2 2) Why is it important to add 1 M HCl dropwise to the crucible? It is important to add the HCl dropwise because the acid is very reactive so by  adding it slowly, you are making the reaction slower so that you get the effect  needed.  Also if you add too much when you don’t need it, it could effect you
