File I/O functions Typical file I/O functions Open/create the file Read/write data to the file Close the file File can be a text file or a binary file Text files can be opened with text editor (notepad) but they are  more bulky Binary files can be read with LabVIEW or other program when  the format is known; smaller than text files but more tricky to  manipulate LabVIEW also includes functions that interact with the  operating system to create folders, move files, … LabVIEW includes high-level file I/O functions to write  and read data files accessible to spreadsheet programs

High level file I/O functions: read Read from spreadsheet  file:  read specified  number of lines from  numeric text file and  convert to 1-D or 2-D  array of numbers. Data  may be transposed.  vi can read selected  number of rows only or  all rows Dialog box to query for  the path of the file to  write if no path is wired  to the path input
