Allan Pinkerton 2 Allan Pinkerton Any discussion about security is almost incomplete without the mention of the name Allan J. Pinkerton. The Pinkerton Detective Agency was founded in 1850 by Allan J. Pinkerton became in its time one of the most important crime detection and law enforcement groups in the United States (Weiser, 2008). Allan Pinkerton was born in 1819 in Scotland, and immigrated to the United States in 1842 where he settled with his wife near Chicago. His first detective work was when he decided to save money by cutting his own poles for barrel hoops, and while doing this on a deserted island in the Fox River he discovered someone had been on the island before him. As there were counterfeiters working in the Chicago area, Mr. Pinkerton wondered if the island could be their place to hide and after talking to the sheriff about his discovery he took part in a sting operation on the island. Pinkerton and the others caught some of the counterfeiters, but failed to apprehend the ringleader. Pinkerton became involved in trying to locate and apprehend him and he did catch the ringleader eventually. Due to Pinkerton’s involvement in apprehending
