BUS 210 Appendix D Contingency Theory of Leadership Description of work environment A cell phone company where employees and managers are paid based on sales. This is a relatively new company and the manager chose to hire new employees with experience in cellular phone sales. Directive approach Supportive approach At the time that each employee is hired the manager gives them an employee handbook and examines it with him or her to make sure he or she understands his or her job duties and follow all rules and procedures to the letter. The manager works closely with each new hire on their first day and instructs them of his or her specific goals he wants him or her to achieve. He tells them how he will be evaluating them and exactly what is expected of them. At the time that a new employee is hired the manager welcomes him or her to the team and shares personal information about him and invites the new employee to do the same. He lets them know that if anything should ever come up, either personal or work
