CMP 315 Introduction Estimating is the process of construction industry that answers the question - 01/20/10 CMP 315 Types of Estimates Conceptual -Several iterations of building design -Estimator - conceptualize the completed building before it is done Unit cost per square foot - Unit cost per cubic foot - Factor estimating -Factor or percentage of building cost by CSI division from historical data Feasibility - determines if project can be done $$$ Detailed -Establish an actual cost Sub- contractor estimates General contractor - quick take-off Risks in Estimating Estimator does not have control on everything Need to anticipate - identify risks - uncertainties associated with the project Ex. -Soil reports -Water table -Soil type -***visit the site yourself Ethics Use good judgement -Yourself -Your company -Your future Cost to perform an estimate Bid projects even if you are too busy to do the project -It’s practice for your estimator -On the payroll anyhow -Your edge to know your competition - know their mark up --- $$$$ Overview of the Detailed Estimate
