ACCT 425 Chapter 4 Notes Duality Relationship – is the relationship between a give event and a take event. So, for example, we purchase a new car. There is duality relationship between the purchase (car) and cash disbursement (paying for it). Stockflow is defined as the inflow or outflow of a resource. Entity – a real-world object that has either physical or conceptual existence. For example, in the Power Point slides, the Entity or Entity Set is Students . Instance refers to a specific Entity or in our case student. So the Entity Set is Franklin’s Students and the instance is Mary Smith. Another Entity Set is classes at Franklin. An instance of this might be Acct 425. Also, it is helpful to think of an Entity as a database table and an instance as an entry in the table. Relationship – is how two Entities are associated. In this example, Mary Smith is enrolled in ACCT 425 so that is the relationship between the Student Entity and Course Entity. Also, it is helpful to think of the relationship of the how the two database tables
