Nick Scicolone 36237809 Psychology 101 Hawk Name of Journal: Name of Article: A role for adrenergic receptors in extinction of conditioned fear and cocaine conditioned place preference. Publication Date: April, 2010 Hypotheses- The hypothesis to this study is whether antagonism of adrenergic receptors would impair the consolidation of extinction in fear and cocaine conditioned places. Participants- 20 different mice were used in this experiment, ages ranging from 8-16 weeks old. They were housed 4 per cage in a controlled temperature environment of 21 degrees Celsius. Results- Mice were put through six extinction sessions. Each session, they were exposed to the cocaine for a 3 minute time period. To administer the cocaine, it was spread out on the floor of the cages that the mice were in. Not until the 4 th session did the mice show different reactions than previously. The hyper-responsiveness of the mice exponentially shrank after this time, and their reaction times were much larger than before.
