3/18/2010 2 Time allowed- 2 hours Perusal time-10 minutes Papers from year to year are different in the number of questions but like the MC they are arranged into Units and then sub-divided into Items. How do I respond to the questions? No response sheet like the MC. For the SR paper you write your response in black ink, either: - In the space provided within the question. This may be in the form of a diagram, graph, map etc. (e.g. Item 1) - Or on the lines provided. (e.g. Item 2)

3/18/2010 4 ± Questions usually have an introduction to help the reader understand the context. ± Stimulus material- can be in a variety of forms- graphs, maps, equations, written passages etc. ± Stem- this is the actual question or the task that you are being asked to do. Key terms, cues, footnotes- tell you how to answer the question / give hints on how to answer the question e.g. item 1 and 2 Line numbers- refer to lines in a written passage. Star value- tells you how difficult the question is / also helps with your time management.

3/18/2010 6 ± Each question has a star value. ± From this you can work out your timing. ± 2 minutes per star. ± 1 star =easy. ± 5 stars = difficult. ± This may also help you to work out how you are going to approach the paper too i.e. more difficult first? All questions are based on the CCEs and answers can take a variety of forms. ± Number ± Visual expression ± Sentence ± Paragraph- you must write in sentences using the keywords from the question.
