IFUNAM, Departamento de Materia Condensada, A.P 20-364, México, DF, 0100, México The microstructure of API 5L X-52 steel samples and its corrosion process are studied when the metal is immersed in a CO 2(g) saturated brine solution at different temperatures. The corrosion processes is studied and quantified by gravimetric methods and the metal surface and corrosion products are characterized by surface analysis techniques. The exposition of the samples in CO 2(g) saturated solutions promoted the formation of Fe x O y layers on the metallic surface, which are originated by a competition of the active areas of the metal due to the diffusion phenomenon of
