Vehicle Packaging Assignment University of Michigan Industrial and Operations Engineering 437 Automotive Human Factors © Paul Green (some ideas from Matt Reed) Fall, 2010 Vehicle Dimensions/Occupant Packaging Evaluation Background and Expected Learning Objectives 1. to familiarize you with procedures for conducting automotive human factors evaluations What you are to do: Your task is to identify problems with the design of 2 vehicle packages. At UMTRI, everyone in the class will get in and out of a car and a truck at least twice. In addition, some students may also get in and out twice while wearing a pregnancy simulator. The process will be videotaped and convert it to digital video, and put the video on a web site you can access. Times can be determined by either counting frames, or if it is available, from an on-screen clock. The video may provide other useful information as well. In addition, we will circulate a biographical form and send the results to the class via email. The class will decide what should appear on the form (name, age, sex, size?). See Matt Reed’s and Gary Rupp’s lectures for information on important vehicle package (e.g., SAE) and subject anthropometric dimensions you may wish to record.
