Poly Sci 5-29-2008 Format of the final – 2 fold. First, short questions, 5. Actual questions and not terms – ex: what is the importance of the structure of ___ organization. What 2 people claim is the problem with ___. 5 Questions will come from since the mid term. 2 nd part of the final will be a comprehensive essay. We will look at an article and will write an analysis in terms of the perspectives of what is going on in the article. It will be focused on major trends and not a single event. Three articles will be handed out next week, and the article will be drawn from one of those. To help you plan your essay. Trend might be negotiation, cooperation, etc. Perspectives? Italicized lectures are perspectives. Some of the perspectives are clustered. There are really 4 perspectives. 1. Realism (state power, national interest, security, sees world in inherent conflict, and pursuit of national interest by states, could be extended toward trade and finance. 2. Combination of constructivism/Liberalism/idealism – the roots of this perspective are in idealism and liberalism. Focusing on international cooperation, growing past state sovereignty and getting more into international integration (EU), focused on benefits of cooperation (particularly economic benefits) , pro trade, think economics can get over security problems. Structuralists think economics isn’t the only thing
