Or prohibit the free exercise thereof. This was first b/c they hated England. They wanted to ensure that the state and the divine were separated. The federal government cant create a religion and say they like it and they cant pick a religion and say they dont like it. Nothing is absolute when it comes to rights and liberties. What if my religions says something to do such as choke a baby, but no state or federal institution would allow you...
