ECSE 527 Optical Engineering: Assignment 2 Assigned: February 5th, 2010 Due: February 15th 2010, 10:30 am Please either bring your submissions to class or leave them in the course assignment box (in Trottier) prior to the deadline. These assignments must be all your own work . You are required to append the assignment cover sheet (available on the class WebCT site in the ‘Assignments’ section) to the front of each assignment that you hand in. The assignment will not be graded without this cover sheet. Please include any workings and calculations that you performed in completing the assignment. 1. CODE V assignment [20 marks]: This exercise requires the implementation of a simple optical system. It consists of seven elements (see fig. 1) and explanations to realize it are given below. They are meant to be explicit but still require some thinking. The comments in square brackets are menu commands while those in italics are text commands that must be entered at the prompt of the command window. If you do not know how to perform a certain task, it is strongly recommended that you look at the Code V Reference Manuals that are included as a PDF document with the software. The abbreviations specific to Code V are spelled out but not the general ones that are frequently used in optics. If there is one that you do not understand, look at your notes. Fig. 1: Cross-section view of the system Instructions 1. First, start with a blank lens [File -> New]. The New Lens Wizard should appear. Follow the instruction and set the system entrance pupil diameter to 40 mm and use the visible spectrum D. Leave the reference wavelength and field options as they are. Finally, click on Done.
