PUBLIC EDUCATION: PROMISE AND PERIL AUGUST 27, 2010 (FRIDAY) EDUCATION BROADLY TECHNOLOGY: 1) vice president used to be projected into a room. This is horrible since he can’t read body language or interact with those in the room. 2) meetings in D.C. = pull out your phones into a bucket before you can get into the room. You see these powerful heads with weird looking/fun looking i-phone covers because at the end of the meeting you have to retrieve your phone quickly 3) he went to parents’ night for his kids. He had to learn how to use the student response system puts older generations to shame EDUCATION FOR SOCIETY VS. EDUCATION FOR THE INDIVIDUAL: - education for society: for the individual to benefit society brainwashing, to mold students into what people need for society; into social roles. For productivity, safety, etc. prepares folks for citizenship. People are conditioned to think differently and to hold certain ideals… therefore people of different nations tend to clash on ideas
