Andrew Klingsporn RHT 101070 Ms. Batai 2/12/08 My first trip to New Orleans I remember my first view of New Orleans. It was 5 days after Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast. I was sent to do construction estimates on hotels in the Bourbon Street area. The trip from Chicago to New Orleans was fairly uneventful until I was about 100 miles from the coast. That was when the destruction began to become apparent. There was also an influx of an insect that seemed to be attached at the rear. When I stopped for gas I asked an attendant what they were. He explained that they were called lovebugs and had been disturbed by the storm and that was why they were so numerous. They were so abundant; there were times that I needed to stop every 2 or 3 miles to clean my windshield of the internal bug juices. As I approached New Orleans proper, I was stopped by army rangers. The rangers asked for my authorization papers which I luckily remembered to get from the office before I left. They then asked if I had a tetanus shot recently. I innocently explained that I
