Patrick McGowan Smith 5/2/10 English 1010 Paper 5 Why do so many Athletes feel that they need to use performance-enhancing drugs? The  pressure to win at any cost is taking control over players, the owners want to see more fans in the  stands and the fans want to see bigger players doing better things. When a fan goes to a game they  want to see a show, they want to see bigger homeruns in baseball, harder hits in football and faster  times in track.  But when a controversy arises about an athlete using anabolic steroids fans turn their  backs on the players and no longer respect them. What has made this topic such a big deal in the past  ten years is the media. Players have been punished for using steroids in past years but it has been  influenced by the media to make the punishments harsher and to test more athletes. With this high  pressure to succeed by fans, coaches and owners players are taking anabolic steroids so they can be the  best. That includes cheating if needed because that is what athletes are doing by taking steroids they  are cheating the game and all of those involved with them.   Every athlete wants glory every athlete

wants to leave something behind and every athlete wants his legacy to be remembered they want to be  talked about forever. You may look big and strong on the outside as a steroid user, but on the inside you are weak.  Your body takes a beating from the increased levels of testosterone that you are taking in. The male  body creates 10 milligrams of testosterone per day, steroid users will consume up to ten times that  amount to make them bigger and stronger. “Steroids can mess with your head. They can even make you  violent. Dr. Harrison Pope said, "I have consulted on several cases where previously non-violent  individuals committed murders when under the influence of steroids." Steroids affect many parts of  your body including the brain, which is why people form roid rage and depression after taking steroids.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
