MAE 3780 M ECHATRONICS FALL 2009 1 HOMEWORK 6 DUE: 10/27/09 1. Calculate the base and collector currents in the circuit shown in Figure 1. Make sure you verify the assumption you make about the operating region of the BJT. You are given R B = 50k , R C = 1k , V γ = 0.6V, V CEsat = 0.2V, and β = 200. Figure 1 2. Consider the circuit shown in Figure 2, representing the amplifier in a transistor radio. The 2V and 5V voltage sources and the 10 mA current source are provided by the battery in the radio. V ant represents the additional voltage provided by the antenna signal, and R L represents the speaker load. The transistor characteristic is given in Figure 3. You are given R B = 11.2 k , R L = 200 , and V γ = 0.6V. a. Find the Q-point of this circuit, assuming no input from the antenna (i.e. V ant = 0). b. Find the gain of the amplifier between the antenna and the speaker at this Q-point, where this gain is defined as dV out /dV ant . Figure 2 Figure 3
